<!-- $$man has spoken -->This has always been a issue in the past with me and I don't want to see it continue in the future!! For eons the players that were drafted, especially the favs and "scholarship" players AL DAVIS drafted were anointed starting positions the moment they set foot in the locker rooms. What??! FA's brought in here were in the starting lineup and had done absolutely nothing to prove they were starting material. Let me go back to 1996, Larry Brown, a backup CB for the Dallas Cowboys was basically handed two passes even a certain wr here now wouldn't have no problem catching, and was named SB MVP. For some insane reason a certain owner saw fit to throw a truckload of $$ at this guy and bring him here to stink up our secondary until Brown was shown the door. Yes, it was a bad FA move but the point is why in the hell was he starting? We all know why. Fast forward into the next millineum. This trend has continued with guys that have no reason whatsoever to even be on the field were handed, anointed, scholarshipped positions. I will name two here just to point out the utter ineptness of how dysfunctional our storied franchise was. In 2009 both Jamarcus Russell and Darrius Heyward Bey were given the starting positions much to the chagrin of a the current Raider players for neither had done a damned thing to show they deserved to even be on the practice squad, let alone the starters here.Qb Jeff Garcia who was brought in but knew this team woudl be horrid with Grimus under C and stated that he should either be the starter or have an opportunity to start. He soon realized that Al Davis was about to give him a fair opportunity and asked for his release. Another player, a S was brought it and while being interviewed he even stated that he believed that Garcia gave the Raiders the best chance to win. He soon was handed his pink slip courstesy of a certain owner Now that Reggie McKenzie is the new GM here I wonder if this will all chnge. I recall during his press conference he stated that competition would be everywhere and that even applied to Carson Palmer, if he doesn't beat out the guy behind him he won't be under C either. That is the way it should be, every player should have to fight for his position, this keeps all the players on point for they know if they play well they will be starting and I see nothing wrong with that. DMC, Bey, Palmer, Seymour, Kelly, Branch, even Veldeer should battle for their starting positions and if any of them are beaten out they go to the bench. The days of scholarship players and anointments are over. Long live the New Regime!!
