Doctors confirmed Monday morning that Oakland Raiders wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey avoided a concussion, according to Dan Enright of the Daily Messenger.

Following the Raiders 34-31 victory over the visiting Pittsburgh Steelers, Oakland head coach Dennis Allen originally informed the media that Heyward-Bey had suffered a concussion. But after analyzing him overnight, medical officials are now claiming that Heyward-Bey's injury is specifically in the neck region.

The injury occurred on an end zone pass from quarterback Carson Palmer early in the fourth quarter. Heyward-Bey was pinched between two defenders with the helmet of safety Ryan Mundy knocking him square in the facemask. Heyward-Bey's head hit the ground violently as he came down from the hit and he was knocked unconscious momentarily. No flag was thrown on the play and Heyward-Bey's eyes remained shut for approximately 10 minutes.

Heyward-Bey was able to give the crowd a thumbs up while being carted off the field.
