We all know the Raiders have been in massive transition since Al Davis died last year. A new GM, new Head Coach, new Offensive Coordinator and scheme, new Defensive Coordinator and scheme, new Special Teams Coach along with various other coaching changes.
After the flurry of signings and cuts after the 53-man roster had been set I looked at how many players were gone from the 2011 opening day roster. What I found was that 24 out of 53 were gone with 3 more on the injured list. If my math is correct, that is a 45% turnover in roster in one year.
With free agency it seemed like there was always a turnover of about 25% each year, but 45% seems unprecedented. I guess when Reggie cleans house, he really cleans house.
Lastly, many of the players signed this year are for one year contracts. This seems to be a new trend in the NFL with the new CBA. What this tells me is the Raiders may have a higher than average turnover in roster next year too.
