The Raiders came into the season with injuries along the offensive line. This has made from some suspect play along the line although offensive line coach, Tony Sparano has still managed to field a decent squad. That task is getting more and more difficult with each passing day.
The team last starting left tackle, Jared Veldheer in the preseason and placed him on partial season injured reserve. Then his replacement, Menelik Watson, suffered a knee injury and has yet to play in a game this season. This caused the team to shift Khalif Barnes to left tackle and start recently acquired Tony Pashos at right tackle. Now, Tony Pashos is questionable for Sunday's game against the Chargers with a groin injury (breathe).
If Pashos can't go, the team could be forced to start undrafted rookie Matt McCants at right tackle. Watson is questionable after returning to practice this week and is also a possibility to start but we won't know until Sunday.
"It's pretty thin," Dennis Allen said of the tackle position at current. "but we've got [Jack] Cornell on our practice squad, we've got [Antoine] McClain who's been here so we'll see how these guys do."
"Yeah, Lucas is a possibility," said Allen. "We'll see how he is come game time. And Lamar Mady's the other guy that has worked in there."
The latest injury happened to center Stefen Wisniewski who is doubtful for Sunday's game. It appears he will not be playing and in his place, it is between Andre Gurode or Lamar Mady as both have played at center this week. Whichever doesn't play center will be starting at left guard. This is not a good situation to be in.
"Yeah, he's not where we need him to be as of today," Allen said of Wisniewski. "We'll continue to monitor him. Hopefully he'll come along and be ok but right now he'd be doubtful for the game."
Last week, Matt Flynn was sacked 7 times and Rashad Jennings had 33 of his 45 yards rushing after contact. Luckily Terrelle Pryor will start again and be able to escape some of the pressure. Hopefully his mobility can also help out Jennings as well or this will be a long night.
