Hey SB&P! Long time reader first time poster and lifelong raider fan here. Boy the most recent games have really compelled me to join this site.
I've tried to watch every game this year as i have felt numerous times that this would be the year, THE YEAR we finally regain our respectability and sadly i just fee that is not going to be the case. I love a lot of the players on the team and i really like some of the young talent we have. Hell i even love Terrelle Pryor. I've always admired his freak athleticism but man... after the last few weeks I've really grown tired of watching him drive this struggle bus. He's another one of Al's track stars. He's shown his flashes but as of now i just don't find him a starter. I'd love seeing him in a different position TE or WR but QB, im extremely skeptical and even more so after his Jawalrus style play against the Giants. We've tried as a fan base to give him a pass due to the O-line being a revolving door and amateur WR's but enough. He's had 1 TD to his 8 INT's since we played KC. I love the kid and his sportsmanship but c'mon MAN! He has the season to fix his recent slump. If he cant pull it together, we have to move on. Mcgloin may need a shot at evaluation before season's end but after that, the front office no longer has the privilege of evaluating talent based off Potential over immediate impact.
If we're gonna make any splashes in a suddenly strong AFC west we have no choice but to draft BPA and draft talent for purely instant impact so now i will pose a few questions to those who wish to participate:
1) If Mcgloin nor Pryor pan out then how do we prioritize our draft and will it be a QB? I have to believe that if Mcgloin is playing second fiddle to Pryor that there is little chance he's going to make any instant impact. That being said, there are some great QB's this year to choose from. I really like the idea of Marcus Mariota being a Raider. Manziel may be a decent fit too. But for me Mariota seems to be the most intellectual of the 2. i mean he has something like 22 TD to 0INTS. Thats insane!
2) Can we afford to address our OL woes primarily through free agency or will we have to a lot picks to the line over our other pressing lack in skill positions. Frankly i'd prefer we get a #1WR in the draft over anything. Hopefully Murray can contribute and OL can be added to in the form of depth thru FA (Its Not like it would take much to upgrade our depth from nincompoops like Lucas Nix) If not OL can probably be upgraded in the later rounds.
3) While TP is a great player, he's no franchise QB, but I cant help but think we'd be wasting an athletes talent if we have him benched in the hopes he could be a backup QB, when he could very well play better in a different position. If you were to keep Pryor on your roster what other position would you put him in so you can optimize his skill set?
4) What's the consensus on our current coaching staff? Do we have the right OC in place? Does DA deserve a 3rd year. Personally If we can't get 6 wins DA may be toast. Olson has been hardly a step up from Knapp and i really think he needs replacing at years end. Mackenzie may be the safest out of all our staff but he may be put on the hot seat depending on how he handles the Raiders in the 2014 offseason. He has to draft immediate impact players and decide if DA is what is right for the team. If he cant accomplish those two tasks effectively in 2014 then he may be in trouble as well.
Tons for us to think about as the Raiders remain in a state of flux. Lets just hope something goes right for us fans for once in the coming weeks. 7 games to go, lets hope we don't have this many questions that demand answering when we roll into draft season.
