Before the season, we had low expectations. In the beginning of the season we had hopes. During the season we were up, then we were down, then up, then down again. Now we head into the final 2 games on a losing streak, and Raider Nation has become a cesspool of finger pointers, especially here at S&BP. A week or so ago, someone even made a post questioning whether or not we were real Raider fans if we didn't jump in join the blame the coach crowd, and be outraged. Of course many took this as a direct insult towards their Raider fan loyalty, and an internet bar brawl broke out. Before that post someone made a post about the wars we were having over which players should start and whether or not we keep certain coaching staff and administrating members. I'm not pointing fingers at any one blogger, or indicating who the finger pointing were about for a reason. This is a general shout out to all Raider fans, whether they post, comment here, just read S&BP, argue with other Raider fans about the state of all things Raider Nation, or just feel humiliated and embarrassed.
We have been loyal for 11 long and frustrating years, and a couple years ago, we came so close to a winning season, winning our division and making the playoffs that there is still a burnt donkey smell singed into our nose hairs. Then the whole decade of desperation signings and flopped drafts combined with crazy ideals, and way too creative cap shuffling rose its weary head, and Mr Davis hired a GM who he felt could turn things around for Raider Nation. Raider Nation sentiment towards the move split, some clinging to the old and what was almost, and the rest wanting wholesale change for a possible stronger Raiders organization. Over the last two years, the Raiders org slowly got dumped out like a can of old oil you drained from your car still sitting in the corner of your garage for the last 4-5 years, and unfortunately it had become a quite oily & messy can. Whether we wanted to deal with the mess right now or not, WE ARE DEALING WITH IT!
There has been nothing pretty or simple about this clean up, and when I say DEALING WITH IT, I also mean us fans too. This isn't just Reggie McKensies job, and only the people he brings in. We have a responsibility in this whole thing too. The good news is our responsibility is much easier than theirs. Good thing too, because they get paid some pretty big bucks for their part. It's simple for us Raider fans, because we're known as the best fans in the world, and all we have to do is what comes easy to us. Love our Raiders
That's my shout out Raider Nation, let us just love our Raiders, and by love I mean it in the truest sense of the word, and I'm attaching unconditionally to it. UNCONDITIONAL LOVE FOR OUR RAIDERS. We are at one of the lowest & darkest points ever for Raider Nation, but it is all possible we are also heading towards a much much brighter future, which may be right around the corner, if our new GM's plan works out. What our Raiders need right now is not all of our skepticism and infighting, but our full support. Big Red has a plan, and we need to support it until it works out or doesn't, and at that point, Mr Davis will need to make another decision. That has to be our stance as "die hard Raider fans", because anything less for our team is shameful. We shouldn't be making any of the players or coaches feel bad when they have bought into RM's master plan and pledged their allegiance to Raider Nation, who is also US! Whether we agree or like what RM is doing, the players and coaches need our full support more than ever right now. They show up and work their asses off, play and coach with the best intentions, and If we criticize them as Raiders, then we as Raider fans are guilty of team sabotage. Why would we think for a second that our words, boos and criticism and a total lack of support would not effect the way our teams players will perform, and coaches will coach. We are better than the Philly type fans out there. Most of us are guilty of this epidemic behavior. Let us Raider fans be the first to defy SBNation norms and show the other fan bases what being a die hard Raider fan is all about. We are Raider fans no matter what, and it doesn't matter what others think of our organization. WE ARE RAIDER NATION AND WE LOVE OUR TEAM UNCONDITIONALLY, GOOD, BAD, OR UGLY.
