If we draft Clowney we're a playoff team, without Clowney we'll be picking in the top 10 next year. He would have that much of an impact on this franchise. He's by far the best player in this draft and probably the best defensive player in over a decade. He's a sure fire hall of famer if he stays healthy, I have no doubts about his abilities on a football field, he would be the greatest player the Raiders ever had. While I absolutely understand the need for an elite QB, we can win football games without one, but we can't win games if we continue to be soft as charmin toilet paper defensively. This team needs a legitimate pass rush, and nothing makes a team more of a defensive stalwart than being able to pressure the QB with only a 4 man rush. Clowney gives us that in a way the league has never seen before, he's going to free up the other 3 lineman because of the attention he's gonna garner. With $60 million in cap space and possibly Jon Gruden at the helm we have a chance to build a potentially nasty defense. One that will change the field position and time clock battle. With Clowney we could have a top 5 defense with just a few additions in the secondary, and we have the $$ to persuade players because we all know guaranteed money in the NFL is a hot commodity. Drafting a QB may help us in the long run, but it doesn't solve our problems on the defensive side of the ball. Regardless of who we draft at QB we won't be putting up 35ppg and that's what we would have to do because our defense is going to continue to give up 35ppg. We need a superstar pass rusher, someone who will force the QB to get rid of the ball before he wants to against a secondary filled with 7 defenders. We need to bring in a top flight cornerback in free agency, someone who can compete and not be run over by receivers the way mike jenkins and d.j. hayden were this year. I believe Hayden will improve, Jenkins needs to be let go, along with porter. As much as I like some of his pass coverage, his inability and lack of desire to tackle has me completely out of his corner. Free agency should dictate who we draft in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, if we can get a stud OG in free agency than our first 3 picks should be on the defensive side of the ball unless a potential starter quality QB is available at the start of the 2nd round. I know one thing is for sure, If I have the choice between Dennis Allen and Jon Gruden, I'd do and pay whatever I had to do and pay to get Gruden.
