This offseason for Oakland is easily one of the most exciting, but also scary at the same time. If we had an offseason money like we do to spend and a full draft with Al Davis at the helm I would be scared for the franchise. But with Reggie McKenzie I feel like we are in a lot safer hands. There is no doubt Oakland has holes at several different positions without a doubt, which leads me to believe there is no reason to make one or two big signings in free agency but sign more "2nd tier" players and add both depth and talent to the roster. As of right now I'm not sold on any of the QB's in the draft for us to take in the top 5, and as much as Clowney "could be" a star I just don't think his mind is right, and there is nobody on that DL to make him a better pro. Why not trade down in the draft, add more picks and maybe pick up somebody like Justin Gilbert or Denard (both CB's.) I feel like we can pick up a WR in the second or third round. Our defense started off pretty impressive, but the fact of the matter is we need to improve our talent of discussion. Nick Roach has been a great signing, and Tyvon Branch we will be back to form next year. Why not in the offseason make a run at Aqib Talib, Greg Hardy, Brian Orakpo, Charles Johnson, Shaun Phillips, Brent Grimes, and Charles Tillman. I understand we can't get them all realistically, but definitely players to look at in Free Agency. There is SO MANY holes in our defense that all of these players would help without a doubt. Another thought running through my head was pass on QB this year and maybe sign Cutler (if the price is right), or even someone like Schaub to maybe a two year deal and see what he can do. Another option would maybe use a 3rd round pick of McCaron or Mettenberger. I know Mettenberger just tore his ACL but he has never been a mobile guy, and has a strong arm and really grew this year under Cam Cameron in LSU. It's definitely early to speculate all of these things because so much can change from now until when free agency starts, and we don't know what Reggie McKenzie is think personal wise, and who knows we could have a new coach before we know it. Let me know what you think. Go Raiders!
