Raiders vs Jets final score: Raiders go down early, never recover, lose 37-27

Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY

In a game the Raiders seemed to have the best shot of winning among their final four games, they got run out of the building. Unlike previous weeks in which the Raiders got ahead early only to collapse late, this time they went down early and never recovered.

The Jets would score on their first drive of the day thanks to a wide open pass play from Geno Smith to Santonio Holmes. They went up 3-0 on a Nick Folk Field goal.

On the following drive, Kevin Burnett would come up with an interception to give the Raiders a shot to answer but Sebastian Janikowski would miss the 52-yard field goal attempt to keep the Raiders scoreless.

The Jets would strike again on the following drive thanks to two long passes by Smith. The first going for 30 yards and the other being the 25-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Kerley. It was Smith's first touchdown pass in almost two months; a span of six games, and the Jets would take a 10-0 lead.

The Raiders tried a wrinkle after that, putting in Terrelle Pryor at quarterback for a drive. They would drive down field into scoring position but the drive would stall when Pryor kept the ball on a read-option and was tackled for an 8-yard loss. The Raiders were still able to put their first points on the board with a 41-yard field goal to come within 10-3.

Pryor would see just that one drive as Matt McGloin would return to the game. McGloin's next drive would begin at his own 2-yard line after a masterful Jets punt. Three plays into the series, McGloin would make matters worse when he threw an interception to Ed Reed and the Jets took over at the Oakland 4-yard line. Luckily the Raiders defense would hold the Jets to just a field goal but the lead was now back to ten at 13-3.

Things went from bad worse for the Raiders when after another stalled drive, Marquette King lined up for a punt and a free rusher came up the middle to block it. The Jets would recover the punt in the end zone for a touchdown and the Raiders would be left searching for answers at half time down 20-3.

The Jets scored as many points in the first half (20) as they had in their last three games combined. They also hadn't scored a touchdown in the past two weeks.

The second half was a back and forth affair for these two teams. The problem for the Raiders was, the defense needed to respond by shutting the Jets down to allow the offense to make a comeback. That didn't happen.

Things started out well for the Raiders when after a 15-yard connection between McGloin and Rod Streater, Marcel Reece took the hand off up the middle and literally out ran the entire Jets defense for a 63-yard touchdown run. And just like that, it was a ten-point game again at 20-10.

The Jets would answer the Raiders touchdown with their own and so it went for the rest of the game. Each team scored on each and every drive the rest of the way until the final score of 37-27.

This was the highest scoring game for the Jets all season long. Their previous high was 30 points which they had done twice early in the season against the Falcons and Patriots.

Marcel Reece had a big day, rushing 19 times for 123 yards and a touchdown along with two catches for 38 yards.

The Raiders losing streak in the eastern time zone extends to 13-straight games. They won't have a chance to break it until next season which will mean a stretch of five years. The last time they won in the east was at Pittsburgh on December 6, 2009.

The Raiders fall to 4-9 on the season, clinching yet another losing season. The Jets improve to 6-7.
