Look, I'm all in favor of being patient and not pulling the trigger too quickly. I also understand that playing musical chairs with head coaches is a great way to fail.
But enough is enough. Dennis Allen needs to go, and it needs to happen no later than December 30 (one day after the last game).
I'm not naive. Coming into this season I would've been happy with 6 or 7 wins. That, to me, would've been an indication of actual progress. But more importantly, I wanted to see a competitive, battling team take the field every week. And I get that this team was handicapped with a ton of dead money and a lack of depth at several positions.
But this? This is utter crap. This team is playing with no heart and no sense of direction. And when it does seem like the players are hitting their stride, bush league playcalling brings things to a nice halt. Maybe there's still unity in the locker room, I wouldn't know, but on the field it's little better than the days of Joe Bugel, Art Shell, or Mike White.
The final straw for me in today's loss to a terrible Jets team was Allen's little QB switcheroo. I would love to get an explanation from someone for just what the hell the point was of putting Pryor into the game and yanking him out. I don't care if it was planned or not, that's the move of a desperate coach who is totally out of ideas. I don't even care at this point if Pryor or McGloin starts. Just pick a damn QB and ride him to the bitter end.
Honestly, the only thing that I think has legitimately improved under Dennis Allen is the reduction in penalties. Other than that, I'm starting to pine for the days of Tom Cable. It's at the point now where I'm actually jealous of Buccaneers and Jaguars fans.
I'm willing to give Reggie McKenzie at least one more year, because he has been handcuffed since he got here. But for his sake, he needs to wake the hell up and cut the entire coaching staff loose. Because if Dennis Allen is back next year, he is going to fail and he will take Reggie down with him.
I'll probably be called a fairweather fan, but at this point I can't even watch the team when I do get the chance to see them. It's not fun and life's too short. I don't know what the answer is, but I can tell you that the guy wearing the coach's headset right now is not it.
