Would Raider Nation be open to Shanahan?

Okay. Before I get blasted please know that this is just something I was thinking about and wanted to mention it as an option. By the way, I am currently lying in a hospital bed with heart issues and have all the time in the world to play on the internet. Not saying anything here, but if I never return to this site, let me just say that it was a pleasure. Now, to business. Mike Shanahan is about to be released from the Redskins. From what I read, it is unlikely that he makes it to the end of the season.

Now I remember when he was the coach of the Los Angeles Raiders. I remember him fining players for sitting on their helmets on the sidelines. I remember Mr. Davis not paying him for 'just cause.' I hated him then, and I hated him even more when he went to Denver and had much success. Oh man, how I hated that guy. But let me present an argument for his rehiring.

In his 20 years as a head coach, Shanahan has an all time record of 170 wins and 135 losses, and winning 2 superbowls with the Broncos. (Disclaimer: I could be wrong about these stats...) Now, I personally think that Dennis Allen has demanded discipline from the team and I think that is evident on the field. However, I also think that his game planning sucks. Should he be fired? Maybe. Only weathermen can be wrong most of the time and still get a pat on the back. Everybody else is held accountable and therefore, so should Dennis Allen. I am disappointed in the job he has done so far, in the measure of wins and losses. But I have to admit that I think maybe another year will do him and the team some good. Continuity and all that. However....

If R-Jack is going to fire him, then who else would he bring in? Gruden has an extension (where does he work? Fox network?) through 2014, Parcells is not coming out of retirement, neither is Flores. Madden is done and forever eating turkey legs wherever it is that he calls home and I would cry if Mark Davis brought back any other recycled past coaches (although call me crazy but I liked the Cableman). So who else is out there, coaching-wise, that would and could take this team to the next level?

There are no other quality coaches that currently coach and will be available next year. So do we go with another Kiffen? Another Allen? You can take a bunch of ragtag players and create a winning team if you are the right coach. But considering that next year we will have some money to spend...who knows what could happen under the right coach?

Shanahan is a disciplinarian who doesn't play games or put up with nonsense. I personally think that this team is ready for that. But ONLY if the day comes when he wears the silver and black will I like (tolerate) him. Just saying...
