We all know that it would be best to trade down. But what if we find no suiters?

Is Star Lotuleli the best option at #3? Perhaps not.

This post is merely a rambling to what I'm thinking of doing sometime this week. Gauging what a position will bring to this team in relation to others in the draft.

Pass rushing is the name of the game here. Have to get to the QB. Our defense was the worst at getting to the QB last season, so why get Star?

Star helps both our run defense in the middle, and gets Houston and Shaugnessy less attention to get to the QB. He is also versatile in the 3-4 and 4-3 and sub packages. But what is the argument for getting guys like Werner, Mingo, or Moore?

We can certainly get a big DT in free agency, and put Houston in at DT next to him. Get a pass rusher in the Draft. You'll have a DL of: Shaugnessy - NT from free agency - Houston - Pass Rusher from draft

There are no real big pass rushers in free agency, and if there are, they would command much more money than a NT or big DT.

Plus in the draft, the big pass rushers collapse into nothing outside the 1st round. There are hardly anyone outside the first round that may be an effective pass rusher for us. But there ARE big NTs that we could draft in the 3rd and 4th. Geathers and Montori Hughes being two names off the top of my head.

So not only is pass rushing probably our biggest worry, but it may be the wisest choice here. Pending we at least get a big DT in free agency to play NT though.
