I don't know if it is just me, but I am completely sick of the half-a**ed attempts at making change. There are two routs RM and DA can go. The first would be to look at what we have (with Palmer, Mcfadden, Kelly, etc.) and say "okay we are going to build a team and compete." To build such a team would require making moves in free agency other than signing the scrubs from other teams and hoping that pull a Philip Wheeler and turn into decent starters. The other approach is to say out with the old and in with the new, which it seems like they are trying to do; however, they are completely failing at doing it correctly.
What needs to happen first is they simply need to cut Palmer and give Pryor the job.Now I am not fully convinced that Pryor is the solution, nor do I think that he is in the same realm as RGIII, Kappernick, or Wilson. BUT, When I look at a team that went 4-12 last season under Palmer, I see no harm in cutting Palmer and giving Pryor the reigns because this team clearly isn't on a "we want to win now" path anyway, and it would be good to watch Pryor over the ups and downs of a season. Also, lets assume that it is going to be a good 2-3 years before we are into playoff contention and we still have Palmer at center. We finally build a team that can take us into the playoffs and maybe we do it one year, but in sticking with Palmer we will run into the Kurt Warner/ Bret Favre issue, where Palmer either retires (leaving us without a proven signal caller setting us back several more years... see the Arizona Cardinals) or he becomes just too damn old to get the job done and we are back to square one. No matter what, since they clearly aren't going for it all right now, they have to cut ties with Palmer and see what they have in Pryor.
Second, if your name isn't Burris, Houston or Branch it is time for you to go. The defense has been abysmal for ages and it is clearly time to sever ties with the past and move on to something new. Branch just restructured, Burris shows a ton of promise, and Houston is the only current player on D who is hands down worth keeping (yes, if branch didn't just restructure I would cut him too).
Some might be wondering why RM and DA are doing such a half-a** job at rebuilding this team, and the answer in simple. They can't afford to simply start from scratch because another loosing season and they are on the hot seat. So, they make changes little by little prolonging the joke that has become the Oakland Raiders. I know it is unreasonable to go into a season already throwing in the towel, but who here thinks that, with the moves that are currently being made, the Raiders have a chance to compete in our division. Today alone the Broncos signed Wes Welker and Rogers-Cromartie, and the Chiefs have been making some big moves in free agency too.
Even though I am tired of all of this not winning that the Raiders do so well, I am still glad that I am not a Chargers fan because I would then have to follow a team that is a loser even when it is playing at its best.
Also, I apologize for the rushed nature of this post (it is not the most well written), but it has been a means of not writing a paper that is due tomorrow, as well as a means of venting about my frustrations with this team.
Win Lose or Tie Raiders Til I
Die (Have a mental break down leaving me in the state of a Chargers fan)
