One of the biggest free agent signings the Raiders made this off-season was to bring in free agent linebacker, Kevin Burnett. Burnett was excited to be reunited with his little brother Kaelin in Oakland. There was one little piece of business that needed to happen first - the Raiders needed to re-sign Kaelin. They did that today.
"I'm not sure if there's ever in the history of the NFL, been two brothers that have played on the same team," said Kevin the day after he signed with the Raiders. "I'd have to do my homework on it. I want to say that's a first. It'll probably be more exciting if we're on the field at the same time."
Kaelin joined the Raiders in camp last year as an undrafted free agent out of Nevada. The coaches made it known they really liked what they saw from him at that time. They showed how much they liked him when they placed him on the team's practice squad. Then midway through the season, he was brought up to the active roster, taking the place of Aaron Curry.
The rookie backer played the final six games for the Raiders, mostly on special teams. He is expected to compete for playing time and depth at strongside linebacker this season while his brother Kevin is expected to compete for the starting job at weakside linebacker.
