With that being said, there is light at the end of the tunnel!
Raiders front office is definitely thinking long term by stacking up the dead money on the books this year, almost $30 million as of the Tommy Kelly release, and possibly be adding to that if Palmer and McClain are cut - additional $20 million. Depending on the aforementioned players being released, we would only be on the books for around $22 million + 2013 draft salaries this time next year. That would land us in the range of 80-90 million in cap space- plenty of room at resigning our own free agents (McFadden, Houston, Veldheer, Reece) and possibly make a play for a big time 2014 free agent; Cushing, Clay Matthews, J. Graham, or Orakpo.
Point being, we will have something we haven’t had in quite some time and that is a cap friendly roster while fielding a competitive team.
