Need a new QB? Why not Kevin Kolb?
Because I'm about to advocate signing Kevin Kolb.
Quick Kolb Kareer stats - Cmp% 59.5, yds 5206, tds 28, ints 25, avg passer rating 79.9 (doesn't sound too different from one Carson Palmer last season now does he?)
Here's my thinking: Matt Flynn. Unproven and hungry, sounds familiar I'll bet. Another one of Reggie's guys. But comes at a cost of a draft pick.
That, no matter what round it is, cannot be done. A team that is rebuilding has to rebuild through the draft and use FA to plug the holes until the next draft. In order to have the greatest probability of picking good players in the draft, we need as many draft picks as possible to increase the percentage chance that we may find a star. Each draft pick we send away, no matter what round, we send away a little bit of that percentage away.
We can't afford to be wasteful here. If the Flynn trade is completed, but Pryor beats him out in training camp, then we'll have wasted a pick for a backup. Why not sign a QB who has more experience than Flynn does? One that requires no draft picks to send anywhere, that will come at a cheap price after a lackluster performance last year. Enter Kolb.
2 paragraphs above I said we use FA to plug the holes until the next draft. Well Raider Nation, we have a pretty big hole at QB. And it sounds like the solution to that is in the 2014 QB draft class. We just need to plug the hole until then.
