There have been three free agent corners linked to the Raiders this off-season - Terence Newman, Tracy Porter, and Mike Jenkins. All three have now made free agent visits to Oakland. Newman decided to return to the Bengals, Porter signed with the Raiders today, and Mike Jenkins left unsigned.
Jenkins spent the first five seasons of his career with the Cowboys after the team made him the 25th overall selection in the 2008 draft out of the University of South Florida. He struggled with injuries of late and lost his starting job last season and the team is moving on without him.
This doesn't mean he won't eventually sign. Both Newman and Porter left without signing. The Raiders offered Newman a contract, he took a week to decide, and opted to stay in Cincinnati. Porter left to weigh his interests and signed a contract today.
Even with the Porter signing, adding a guy like Jenkins makes some sense. Although, from the sounds of it, the Raiders had intended on adding one free agent corner and after Newman declined, they went with Porter.
