I'd like to start this off by saying, "I don't think Pryor will win the competition," but I would like to offer the Raider Nation a... 'What if' I think Matt Flynn can be and will be above average, no matter what team it may be with. I think he has the skills and talent to excel on a team that tailors to his talent. Do I think Greg Olson can do that? Yes! A definitive yes. I think he is going to turn this team around offensively, like nobody expected. He has the offensive mind and skill players to make what he wants of this offense.
But... let's say that it really is an open competition and 'May the best Quarterback win.' from what I've read about Pryor, and unfortunately I cannot be there to offer my own opinion, he has zip on his passes, he has come much much farther than we saw last year, and he can make the throws that need to be made. Is that not what a Quarterback is all about? I'm sure that DA wants to see him make all the RIGHT throws in practice, I'm sure he expects nothing less than perfection, as he should from all of our QBs. But if he is a hair less than Matt Flynn in the 'Prototypical QB' sense, should we not see him get some first team snaps?
Imagine, if you will, a QB that can make most of the throws of a 'Typical NFL QB,' but with that little running edge to him (if you can call what Pryor posses as 'that little') I want Pryor to win. I also want what's best for the team. I don't want Pryor to win because he offers a dynamic. I want Pryor to win because he is a hair shy, if not on par to what Flynn brings in the passing game and he has that extra 'it' factor. That is the progression I see of the league and of the QBs coming out of college.
Like I said, I am not at Training Camp. Unfortunately I do not live remotely close enough to justify buying season tickets, so I can go to Training camp (as much as I try to.) But, from what I've heard Pryor has improved immensely on his footwork, and his passes now have zip and accuracy to them. No real fan has ever denied his work ethic and ability... it was always his comprehension and mechanics of the game that we doubted. If he can get those straight then maybe... just maybe we can have an exciting football team.
I believe no matter who wins the competition, it will be rightfully deserved, but we can all admit... Pryor would be much more exciting to watch than Flynn on the field. Either way... Just win baby win... or Maybe just Flynn baby Flynn... it will be good no matter what the outcome... I have high hopes and expectations from our team. Even if I'm the only one.
