It's only the preseason, but a victory in any season is always nice. Here are some interesting numbers from last night's game.
28-25-1: The Raiders' record in preseason openers.
29: This was the 29th time that the Raiders faced the Cowboys in the preseason. The only team that they've met more in the preseason is the team from across the bay – the San Francisco 49ers (39 times | 19-20).
19-10: The Raiders' preseason record vs. the Dallas Cowboys.
.655: The Raiders' preseason winning percentage against the Cowboys. It's the team's fifth best winning percentage in a preseason series: 1t. Buffalo Bills (5-1) .833; 1t. Detroit Lions (5-1) .833; 3. New York Jets (7-2) .778; 4. Atlanta Falcons (3-1) .750; 5. Dallas Cowboys (19-10) .655.
7-1: The Raiders' preseason record vs. the Cowboys during seasons in which the teams have also met in the regular season; 4-2 is the Raiders' record in the regular-season rematch. Note: The teams met twice in the 2001 preseason.
19-17: This was only the second time – preseason and counted games – that the Raiders won a game by a 19-17 score. The other time was back in 1980, a 19-17 victory at the Seattle Seahawks on a Monday night in November.
2-point MOV: This was the fourth time – first since 1997 – that the Raiders won a preseason game by two points; second time against the Cowboys. Their other 2-point preseason victory over the Cowboys occurred back in 1990, the then L.A. Raiders defeated Dallas 16-14.
40-0: That's the score the ’77 Oakland Raiders tallied against the Houston Oilers in their preseason opener. To this day it's still the greatest victory by a defending Super Bowl champion in their first league preseason game. The Ravens came within 12 points of that record on Thursday with a 44-16 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
7: Next week's game against the New Orleans Saints is the Raiders' seventh trip to the Superdome; first ever in the preseason.
