Matt Flynn is a game manager, nothing more, much less. He displayed his ability to check down to his backs twice, and completed a 3rd and long pass to a wide open Denarius Moore who had 5 yards of separation on a simple dig at 10 yards.
Then on 3rd and 3, he elected to hit Streeter for a short gain under a lb rather than wait the extra second he had for Criner to come open on a delayed post, would have been a huge gain.
Maybe he's to short to see it, was in the pocket, maybe he was just playing it safe. Whatever the case, he got a fg but that won't be good enough in the regular season, and he lacks the fastball to squeeze balls deep when he will have to.
Safe isn't safe for Dennis Allen. Play it safe at your own peril. DMAC is not going to have near the success he could have with a qb that forces both Safeties to play the pass. 8 in the box with these guards pulling is gonna make for rough sledding. Dallas dared Flynn to check to a pass. 3rd and long further is that much worse with a qb with a weak arm. A run orientated offense must stay on schedule, but without a legit qb it fails, ask the Jets.
If Pryor starts, defenses are out numbered if you know your math in the box with a pistol read option. And it creates 1 vs 1 which these dropsy wrs seem to need. Pryor would probably run for 1000 yards out of the pistol with DMAC. The success he had was hardly surprising given his athleticism.
There is nothing Flynn brings that Pryor doesn't, Pryor brings mismatches, 1 vs 1, threats that literally coaches spend hours trying to create, his presence brings it alone. Starting the game manager vs the youngster with all the upside is a formula for frustration and losses.
