Matt Flynn was all but crowned the Raider starter a few short weeks ago, but a strong argument can be made that all Terrelle Pryor's hard work is starting to pay off. Much like last year when Flynn came to Seahawks camp the anointed starter, only to watch the job slip through his fingers. Yet again it appears he is being out worked by a mobile, hungry young quarterback with something to prove.
For three preseason games now we have watched the 1st team struggle, only to have the bench provide the spark the team needed to climb back into the game. Granted, it is not quite the same as going against the opponents 1st team, but never the less, from what he has shown Pryor has surely done enough to deserve the opportunity to take the 1st team out for a spin in the preseason finally, and be evaluated on a equal basis. Pryor though not the NFL prototype QB is none the less a winner. He has that X factor that makes a winner. You can flounder for years in a sea of prototypical QB prospects hoping to find one with that X factor, but can you afford to ignore it because it doesn't come in the prototypical package. I think Russell Wilson has proved to the NFL you can no longer afford to overlook a winner because the status quo says a QB should look a certain way.
As poorly as the 1st team has performed in the preseason leaving the 2nd and 3rd teams to fight back to respectability, should not some of these guys, starting with Pryor get the chance to prove against 1st team talent they deserve the shot to start. If for no other reason, to light a fire under the starters, letting them know that they are not entitled, and those who play with fire deserve the chance to play.
