Report: Menelik Watson out for a month with torn lateral meniscus

Thearon W. Henderson

Many people felt like there was more to the story of Menelik Watson's knee injury. Dennis Allen has a history of talking about minor injuries and keeping silent on the more serious ones, and mum was the word until now on Watson.

Much to the dismay of Raiders fans it seems that theory still holds true. It is being reported by ESPN that Menelik's "tweak" (annoyingly obtuse description we had been given of the injury) of his knee was actually a tear to his lateral meniscus cartilage. Also in the report is that Watson has already gone under the knife for a surgery on the injury that will likely keep him out a month.

Obviously not the news we wanted to hear about for Oakland's 2nd round pick out of Florida State. It seems the Raiders have no choice but to move on with Khalif Barnes holding down Jared Veldheer's LT spot with newly acquired Tony Pashos at RT. Pashos performed very well on the right side against Indy week 1 but Barnes struggled on the tougher left side of the line.

We will just have to chalk it up as another injury and move ahead without Watson. Hopefully the young man rehabs well and can get back on the field as quickly as possible. In the mean time it's a good thing we have a mobile quarterback to help balance out any possible mistakes along the depleted offensive line. Cross your fingers that everybody can stay healthy from now on because the Raiders simply do not have the depth to handle anymore injuries to their line.
