I've been saying all week that the Jax game reminded me of last year's meeting with the Jags and the team coming off a strong performance against Atlanta. Much was revealed in that game as the team struggled to an overtime win while passing for almost 300 yards and only 1 int. It's obvious that this game was leaps and bounds above that game. Interesting enough DMC had the same amount of carries (19) but was able to break a few this time as opposed to last year when he had just 53 yards. It's obvious the defense was the difference. The defensive control of the game allowed the conservative game plan to work with less than half as many passing yards and more importantly, no interceptions. Granted, TP didn't do much in the air but he put the ball in the air almost 25 times and no one on the Jax wound up with it.
We've had 9 sacks in 2 games. It's time to admit our defense really is good. It's different and it's not about the quality of opponents. 3rd in PA. This is not the same defense that was humiliated in week 4 of last year vs. Manning (who was never sacked that game). Taking MJD out of the Jax game helped but the D did show up to play. As bad as 5 FG attempts sound, it's sweet music compared to 5 3 and outs. And the TD was a RZ play. There really is enough to move forward to the Denver game with higher expectations. There is enough on the team to beat Denver. It's going to come down to coaching: limiting our deficiencies and maximizing our assets. Sort of what happened with Jax, but Denver is for a lot more marbles.
