The Raiders came out like gangbusters in this one. Two 3 and outs by the Redskins and a blocked punt recovered for a TD had the Raiders up 7-0 in the first 5 minutes of the game. A few short minutes later and it was 14-0 after Mychal Rivera scored his first TD of his career. That would be the score at the end of the 1st quarter.
Too bad 5 minutes into the 2nd quarter and it was 14-10 already thanks to a terrible pass by Matt Flynn that was returned for a TD. Flynn had the one good TD drive and some timely 3rd down completions but has been inconsistent quite a bit too. He definitely hasn't caused a QB controversy from his play in the 1st half.
After all the excitement to get to 14-10 neither team was able to put up anymore points before the end of the half. Charles Woodson made another nice play in this game when he sacked RG3 on a 4th down play that helped keep the score the same. The Raiders were unable to convert on their great field position after that sack at midfield though which was really disappointing.
Washington has been ineffective today and shouldn't even be in this game. They got a gift by way of a forced pass that was intercepted and returned for a TD. Then again the Raiders got a special teams TD so I guess it evens itself out. Hopefully the Raiders can continue to play with such energy in the second half.
The real story of the first half is that Marcel Reece is knocked out of the game with an injury and Darren McFadden's return is questionable. The Raiders will be forced to rely on back up Rashad Jennings in the 2nd half if DMC can not return.
