Well what have we learned?
#1 - Flynn is not our future QB and never will be. Sure, he had a short hand after Dmac and Reece went down but his pocket awareness made Palmer look like a perennial All Pro in that department and Jennings did a nice job filling in. Sans excuses - he was incapable of moving the chains or not making a mistake and he singlehandedly gave WAS their first win - a win that never should have happened. IMHO he should be demoted to #3 as he has nothing to offer, it was Boller vs KC kind of bad and we never need to see that again. For all those complaining about the pick we gave up for him or how much $ he'll make remember this: We owe him nothing next season - zilch and Palmer cost us so much more for about the same level of ineptness moving the ball and taking unnecessary sacks/strips.
#2 - Time to bail on Dmac. This chicken legged, speedster has glass for a lower body. It was my biggest concern when Al drafted him because in the NFL everyone is fast, you have to be able to break tackles and hit hard without coming up lame every other game. He's another Sproles when used in the way his body was intended IMO and if he's willing to take a significant pay cut to fill that 3rd down passing role then fine, keep him but his days as a 20 carry guy should be over - he simply can't take the pounding and if he wants that kind of role/$ - let someone else take that hit. Btw I wanted Charles in that draft, a guy who's been healthy as a horse save one freak injury. Every time I watch him I'm reminded of why we should have drafted him instead. Either way, it's more of the same for Dmac and we've had enough.
#3 - The Achilles heel on this team is starting to show. Depth or rather, lack thereof was always a fear this year and with every guy that goes down, our team gets worse. I'm very concerned about Pryor's health now that Wiz II is hurt and he's had 1 concussion. RM needs to shore up this issue next off season when we'll have plenty of $ and draft picks.
#4 - We should have won this game easily and that means we are still better than what most haters projected us to be in the off season. Pryor was the second coming of Te_blow, our entire team supposedly got worse (no chance at defensive improvement) and we'd be lucky to win one game. Well Pryor has continued to show poise, leadership and improved decision making and accuracy, the defense has improved dramatically from last season's inept squad and we've already won one game.
There were no delusions on my part this season - growing pains were to be expected and as we lose more starters - that only compounds those growing pains. We will be lucky to win many more games going forward IMO. But that's not a reflection of the overall team so much as where we are in our rebuild and the fact we have $50 Million tied up in guys not on our team. I look forward to seeing this team fight though, as well as the maturation of Pryor - who looks to be everything Al hoped he would be.
#5 - There is a silver lining here. We end up with more $ than any other team next off season, most of our draft picks and a very good shot at adding another impact player or 2 because of our draft position. 2014 will be the turning point for what has been the agony of the last 10 years and we'll get an even clearer vision of what kind of team RM & DA truly wish to build.
