The Chargers and Broncos meet for the third time this season. They split the season series while the Broncos ran away with the AFC West Crown and the Chargers squeaked in as the last Wild Card team. The Broncos were one of the wins the Chargers had to finish the season on a four-game win streak. They then beat the Bengals in the Wild Card round.
Here are the details you need to know:
Who: (6) San Diego Chargers (9-7) vs. (1) Denver Broncos (13-3)
Where: Invesco Stadium at Mile High, Denver CO
When: Sunday, January 12, 1:40pm Pacific Time (2:40pm MT)
TV: CBS
Both of these teams have shown some impressive offense this season. But it's the Broncos who have put up historically big offensive numbers with Manning and the team setting several records including most passing yards, passing touchdowns, and points scored.
The Chargers were looking pretty bad much of the season but went on a hot streak late that some are calling pretty suspect. There was the Rod Streater TD that wasn't and the following week the uncalled penalty that would have given the Chiefs another chance to win the game on a field goal try. We'll see if Philip Rivers is sporting his bolo tie after the game.
The Chargers defense will have their hands full again (or will they?) trying to contain Peyton Manning and the high-powered Broncos attack. On the other hand, the Broncos defense is a joke and could give up plenty of points to the Chargers. Should be interesting to see how it plays out.
And remember, while they can't both win, one of them must lose and therefore Raiders fans can take comfort in that.
