For what it's worth, this will be an ongoing series of what I think needs to happen, or what I think will happen. For what I think needs to happen, I will obviously put out who, what and when I see as the best moves that are available at the time; for what I think will happen, it will be what I see as the moves that the Raiders will make, although I may or may not agree with them. So, let's get started with this installment, fullbacks...
Reece: No question that he gives us options that most teams don't have. Knowing that, it was aggravating to see that not be utilized fully, as the offensive line was wracked by injuries, leading to Reece being forced to provide more protection rather than taking advantage of potential mismatches. As the line saw starters return, we saw more of Reece as an offensive weapon, enough for him to earn a Pro Bowl spot. Hopefully, we will have a healthy line next year, and he can really strut his stuff.
Olawale: I don't have anything bad to say about Olawale, but I don't really have anything great to say about him either. He is a decent blocker, but not a hammer; he runs okay with the ball, but he isn't a threat; he has average hands, but isn't sure-handed or an excellent route runner. He is 'just a guy' that I think that will be allowed to walk; players with greater upside will not be difficult to find.
I'm glad that we have already signed Reece to an extension; with any improvement in the stability of the offensive line, he will be an X-factor type player, an option that will only become more effective with a solid running game/back. As for a backup, I would hope that we look at a young guy late in the draft (where most FB's are taken) that is more of a hammer, with decent hands.
