Roughly $63,000,000 in cap space will soon be at Reggie McKenzie's disposal.
One of his first moves needs to be locking up Alex Mack, a former Cal Bear and lifelong Cali native.
He's regarded as one of the best Centers in the NFL, with some labeling him the best. Little Wiz would have to shift back to LG, which isn't a big deal. In fact, the last time this offense looked like…an offense…was Wiz's rookie year, when he started at LG. Assuming, and praying, they lock up Veldheer, how about this:
LT - Veldheer (age 26) LG - Little Wiz (age 24) C - Alex Mack (age 28) RG - (draft or Nix?) RT - Watson (age 25)
You want to talk about building a young foundation on offense - that's pretty damn good.
And on average, Centers make the least out of any guy on the offensive line. It might take Guard money to lock him up, but he'd be worth every penny - especially with Wiz going back to a position he's had success at on the cheap.
There's no point in putting this lightly: The Raiders have a shit ton of holes to fill. But let's be real - the best teams in the NFL win in the trenches, and an offense is only as good as the fat guys paving the way.
With the amount of money this team now has, this move just makes way too much sense. It's the perfect place to start. Hell, even a rookie QB could win ballgames behind a line like that. . .
