The Raiders made the move today to send Sio Moore to injured reserve. He had been suffering from a hip injury that caused him to miss last week's game in Kansas City. In a corresponding move, they signed CB Chance Casey who had been on the San Francisco 49ers' practice squad.
Casey originally signed with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent in May 2013, and spent most of the 2013 campaign on Oakland's practice squad. He was elevated to the active roster in December and appeared in two games for the Silver and Black last year. Casey was waived by the Raiders at the end of training camp in 2014. The 5-11, 190-pounder was a four-year starter at Baylor (2009-12), totaling 212 tackles, three interceptions, 18 passes defensed and three forced fumbles.
Sio started 11 games at weakside linebacker this season, with 112 tackles (79 solo), 3.0 sacks, 2 passes defended and one forced fumble. In his place last week, Ray Ray Armstrong got the start. Without Sio, the Raiders currently have four linebackers on the squad -- Khalil Mack, Miles Burris, undrafted rookie Bojay Filimoeatu who was recently activated from the practice squad, and Armstrong who was signed earlier this season when Sio was nursing an injured ankle.
