The one position that can turn a 4 win team into a playoff team is Quarterback. Andrew Luck brought the Colts from the worst record in the NFL to the playoffs in his first year. With the 5th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the top 3 Quarterbacks will most likely be gone. Reggie McKenzie and Dennis Allen know they are on the hot seat and in a desperate move, may possibility trade up to draft a Quarterback that could turn the Raiders into a winning franchise.
Many NFL analysts agree that the Raiders are a contender to trade down in the draft in order to gain more picks. They believe that since the Raiders have so many holes, they will want to fill them with solid players. This formula might bring the Raiders to the playoffs in a couple years, but not next year. Reggie McKenzie and Dennis Allen would be assistants for a different team by that time period. But a do or die pick on a Quarterback has the potential to save both of their careers.
While Sammy Watkins and Jadeveon Clowney are great players, they are not going to save McKenzie or Allen's job. But a talented Quarterback such as Johnny Manziel, Teddy Bridgewater of Blake Bortles might. The Raiders have potential on their roster, now they need a Quarterback to build around. Drafting a Quarterback early is the only way that the Raiders amass 7 wins this year. If the Raiders fall in love with one of the top Quarterbacks and feel he may be drafted early, don't be surprised if McKenzie trades up to draft him.
