I'm not going to waste time talking the guys we lost today. They played hard but they are no longer with us and as far as I'm concerned that's the end of it. I wish them well.
I'd rather look at what today revealed of RM's overall plan.
#1 - We are clearly rebuilding the OL. The only guy assured of a job from last season is Wiz.. Right now I see Wiz, Watson, McCants, Saffold, Howard, Mady, Barnes, Berstrom, Shaw & Cornell as our OL guys. Already that's a better line from last season and with more experience and quality depth. Question is, are we done? Remains to be seen. But I won't be surprised if Pashos is resigned as well. Ultimately we've ignored this piece for a long time and it's nice to finally see it be addressed as a whole.
#2 - Dmac. I was all for signing him at the right price. We did that - more importantly, he was willing and wanting to come back. That speaks volumes to me and I never wanted the guy. An incentive laden deal, there's very little risk for us and if he pulls a Reggie Bush we could have a very nice trade chip to bargain with. With an improved OL perhaps he finally shows the skills that made everyone drool. It'd be nice if it happened. Like DA and RM, it's put up or shut time for him - for the last time. That being said, RM is hedging his bets by signing Sheets, getting Murray back and it appears, poised to sign Jennings clone Andre Brown (Hell they stole our guy so turnabout is fair play).
#3 - RM signed young guys that fill needs and took a very cheap gamble on what's supposed to be our best weapon. It's clear that we are not done and we haven't seen Reece's "surprise" yet - to our knowledge. I won't be shocked to see some quality defensive signings tomorrow and in coming days that will give us a clearer picture as to where we're heading in the draft. I see focus in the secondary as there are still some nice guys to be had there and perhaps a pass rusher. I also expect to see Pryor dealt at some point and for us to trade down again and add more quality players.
A lot of people are pissed off today, I get it but I think when the off season is over we'll be much happier at what we trot onto the field. Here's to day 2!!
