Report: Justin Tuck, Lamarr Woodley visit Raiders Wednesday

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

It may not have occurred so much to the Raiders to go after some pass rushers on the first day of free agency but better late than never, I suppose. Wednesday -- day 2 of free agency -- the Raiders hosted defensive end Justin Tuck and outside linebacker Lamarr Woodley.

The 30-year-old Tuck has spent his entire 9-year career with the New York Giants -- the past six as the team's everyday starting defensive end. The former third round pick was part of two Super Bowl winning teams there along with being named All Pro once (2008) and heading to two Pro Bowls (2008, 2010). He has four times reached double digits in sacks in his career.

Lamarr Woodley was recently cut by the Steelers to clear salary cap room. He has played outside linebacker in the Steelers 3-4 scheme but is seen as a guy who can translate easily to 4-3 defensive end. The 29-year-old has played with the Steelers his entire career since they chose him in the 2nd round of the 2007 draft. He too has a Super Bowl ring. He has thrice had double digit sacks and made the Pro Bowl once, though that was way back in 2009 and his stats have dipped the past couple seasons.

UPDATE: You can add Antonio Smith to the list of defensive ends visiting the Raiders today. The 32-year-old was an everyday starter for the Texans the past five seasons, making the Pro Bowl in 2011.

Signing one or both of these guys would be a good start as far as making a dent in the glaring need at defensive end which was exacerbated by allowing Lamarr Houston to leave as a free agent.
