I'm sure a lot of people don't want to hear about a big, tall, strong-armed QB from LSU, but I've just recently been watching some videos on.....Ja-Zach Mettenberger and he doesn't seem all that bad. He's got a strong arm, stands tall in the pocket, has the 'ideal size' for the prototypical QB, and before he went down with his injury he was having a career year. Not saying I'm an expert at watching tape, but from a casual fans standpoint, he's got good footwork, he seemed to know how to move around in the pocket well enough to avoid sacks, and he'd manage to keep his eyes down the field. His big knock is that he is coming off that injury previously mentioned, a torn ACL, but many 'experts' still say he has the strongest arm in the draft and has a chance to be a 2nd-3rd round pick.

Now I'm not saying draft him and then start him, but this is where that Matt Schaub character could come into play. I know we have M.McGod and TP2, but could you see RM take Mettenberger in the later rounds and have the three younger QB's battle for 2nd and 3rd string then out with the 4th? RM cut ties with T. Wilson and it didn't seem to phase him all that much. And he does like himself some good ol' competition.
Or to please everyone imagine your idea of the best FA QB available - Vick, Freeman, Fitzpatrick or trade for the Dirty Sanchez if you please. But my point is, if you're not in love with Johnny, Bortles, Carr, or Teddy, and would like to take the QB 'stop-gab' approach (sign a guy for two-years and see what happens imo) why not add another young QB - one that was having a fantastic year before a devastating knee injury - to our QB carrousel. We don't necessarily have to draft our franchise QB in the first round, and we do need some more help throughout the roster. Again, I'm no expert but I'd do what I can to trade down and stockpile picks, and keep building that defense. Get a young pass-rushing defensive lineman to learn from all the Super Bowl winners we're compiling, or add another cornerback to learn from C. Woodson, since we got him back on board!
But just wanted to throw another idea out there, maybe even rev up the Mettenberger stock a little too. Either way it looks like our QB may not have to be running for his life, as much, since RM decided to make some nice moves and begin to build a monstrous O-Line.
