I just wanted to see what this looked like in print. Ooooh - me likes it mucho!
I posted the following on a blog discussing the alternate opinion possible for the Raiders pursuant to this young phenom.
Why is everyone so sure he is out of reach. If determined by RM and DA he is this "once in a generation type DE" we are in great position to go and get him. I know it will cost next year's 1st rounder and our 3rd this year, but he is NOT out of reach.
It is all philosophy. Does trading away two picks, mortgaging our future one next year, help us compete for a division title this year? Does Clowney bring that force which other DC's will stay up at night trying to defeat? Does his presence make JT, ASmith and Woodley a new "fearsome foursome recipe? IMO - he does.
To me, when all these pieces add up - we are missing two things: an adequate slot CB and a superstar playmaker. JaDaveon Clowney is that superstar. It just makes sense. While the added veterans have performed well in their careers - we are all fools to think that by merely assembling them they will all excel to their highest potential. They are all on the downside of their careers making a last stand. Clowney, would take this D to another level. The window is small and is now!
I cannot think that Khalil Mack can do the same - I just cannot get there. Though he is outright a great young prospect, you cannot deny the exceptional features which JC would bring in comparison IMO.
Its cost-value. Is the cost worth the long term value. The price RM was offering to Allen tells me this is so! If McKenzie was offering 9 million he puts an incredible value on this position - he needs to and he knows he has no real depth behind the veterans - Jack Crawford? Robinson? Come on....!
No, I thing his going after Allen this way signaled to the Nation we are a player away from competing at a high level on D.
I have made a case that we are in position to make a move for JaDaveon Clowney in the draft. It is really not all that hard to make or to "see."
It is simply to naive to think we cannot get him or that he is "unattainable" as so many offer.
