I wanted to stop and compare the starting roster from the 1st game of the 2012 season to the expected starting roster for the upcoming 2014 season. DA has 18 different starters on the 2014 roster which are upgrades in nearly every position.
DE Matt Shaughnessey
DE Lamarr Houston
DT Richard Seymour
DT Tommy Kelly
OLB Phillip Wheeler
MLB Rolando McClain
OLB Miles Burris
CB Ron Bartell
CB Shawntae Spencer
FS Michael Huff
SS Tyvon Branch
Most importantly, there's been added depth and several new players that are going to help upgrade the play of the team.
I think Reggie has done a very good job at starting the rebuild of this franchise. I hope in time several of the draft picks like Justin Ellis, Derek Carr, Keith McGill, and possibly even Jonathan Dowling can become starters on this roster or at least provide solid depth.
Give Reggie two more years and I'm certain the starting players will be upgraded and even better with a solid group of players backing up the starters who are capable of staring for other teams.
I decided to write this article after reading someone's post from PFF which detailed the Raiders expected starting roster in February and what's it's like today. I'm very excited to see the growth in the team that's going to start in September. I believe there are several upgrades and more depth than we've seen before.
What do you think Nation? This is the first year Reggie has been able to give DA a decent roster, and if you compare this roster to the 2012 roster, it's night & day better and it's kind of amazing considering where Reggie started and where he's at now!
