Stanford RB Tyler Gaffney visited Raiders

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Former Stanford running back, Tyler Gaffney appeared as a guest on Bay Area radio station 95.7 The Game where he said he has visited the Raiders among other teams which include the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos.

Gaffney is a bruising back who had a very successful 2013 season as the Cardinal go-to back. He plowed his way to 1709 yards on 330 carries last season (5.2 yards per carry), with 21 touchdowns.

The 6-0, 200 pound back played a pivotal role in helping the Cardinal win the Pac-12 title last season.

He is not an explosive or quick back. He is all power and would fit on an NFL team as a short yardage specialist. He has a late round grade by most draft analysts though he said the indications he was getting is he would come off the board between round three and five.

The closest thing the Raiders have to a power back is fullback Marcel Reece. Gaffney would be a change of pace from the other backs on the roster.
