We all have lots of reasons to be optimistic this season, we have a team that's slowly growing in talent. We have players that have the ability to be successful and have been successful in the NFL. I truly believe that we have the ability to put a product out on that field every sunday that can compete with anyone in the league.
Offensively a lot depends on Matt Schaub, but the thing that will make him more effective is the running game. We have to be a team like Seattle that is able to run the football at least 50% of the time, Schaub is best in play action, so we need to play to his strengths. Mcfadden and Drew need to suit up every sunday, we've had our injury seasons, it's time for some good luck in our favor. I like our receiving core, and I think with better QB play, they'll play better, it's all about confidence in the person throwing the ball, if receivers don't believe in that person the relationship struggles.
Defensively we're not going to be great, but we will no longer be a doormat. Teams aren't going to be able to run the ball all over us, we have speed, we have strength at the point of attack, and we have a veteran secondary with one young starter who has the potential to be a star. We have the ability to get after the passer with speed and with power, and the personnel to give multiple looks. We're one free agency haul and draft from having a top 10 defense.
I truly believe our strongest strength and the reason we have a chance to compete with any team in the league is our special teams. But they have to be special, SeaBass had a terrible year last year. He was a weakness and not a strength, I don't care about Shane leaving or him having a new holder, there's no excuse for his poor play last year. He needs to be a weapon, a consistent All-Pro weapon. Combined with a Marquette King with another year under his belt, we should have to best Combo in the league. TJ is an excellent gunner, and if Brandt is correct he might have help in Dowling. If we're going to make a playoff run, SeaBass is the key, he has to kick like he's capable of kicking, No misses under 50 yards this year.
If we can slow the game down, limit the amount of possessions a team gets, and limit our turnovers, while running the ball and winning the line of scrimmage. We can shock the NFL world.
