Analysis:
James Gayle is an edge rusher for the Virginia Tech Hokies. Gayle has tremendous quickness and speed. He is solidly built and has a good frame. Gayle shows great effort on his pursuit and plays hard. He also has three years of experience as a starter. At the NFL Scouting Combine, Gayle ran a 4.7 40-yard dash and posted a 37" vertical jump. He ranges all over the field to make tackle. He has good balance and great explosion.
Negatives:
Although Gayle has played three years in the ACC, he only has a small variety of pass moves. He also struggles to change direction and is a poor open-field tackler. Gayle is a one dimensional player which is why his stock will fall come draft day. He gets after the quarterback, but needs improvement in pass coverage. Gayle needs to increase his football intelligence.
