I’ve been pondering why some on this community have been quick to say why we do not need to draft a running back in this year’s draft. I do understand we have a bit of a log jam, and we have pressing needs pretty much everywhere else, but I do think a closer look at the RB situation is in order.
MJD- If he returns to form, this is a coup, for the price, passion, etc. But the reality is this, he is old in running back years, has a lot of carries in that bowling ball frame, coming off a couple of disappointing injury plagued seasons. So who knows what we have here.
McFragile- Should have been gone, low price to keep ‘em or not, I give him 3 games, 1 TD, 3 ypc. I have completely stopped hoping or caring for his potential to come to fruit. My only hope for this year is he can spell our starter for a few carries for the first couple games before he goes out with injury.
Kory Sheets- Who? A washout in the NFL already, but what is that I hear?… He was the Grey Cup MVP! The reality is who knows what we have here. My guess is he is not ready for prime time.
Lat. Murray- We seem to all like this kid’s potential, he is big and fast. But so far, that’s it. What, 2 carries in last year’s pre-season?
J. Stewart- Special teams may not even make final roster.
Reese- Let’s face it, he’s more valuable as our full back, and not carrying the rock and risking injury. I’d like to see him get more touches just like everyone, but not at the cost of losing him...Balance is key.
I give our group a solid C. a 5 out of 10, an average grade, could be okay, could be a disaster. Again, the reality is we need help everywhere, but after the first few rounds, if we pick up an extra 4th, or get a 5th or 6th, or use one of our 3 7ths I say draft one! RB’s are good value in the mid to late rounds, and you never know when you might catch fire. Plus the fact they make good special teamers and/or returners.
Tyler Gaffney, D’Anthony Thomas, Storm Johnson, George Atkinson III, just to name a few should all be available sometime after 4th round and even into the 7th. I for one would take a flier…
