I think it was virtually impossible for anyone to correctly Mock the 1st round of the draft yesterday, there were so many surprises and trades and teams reaching for need picks that players I didn't fathom being taken in the 1st round have pushed legitimate talent into the 2nd round and we are in an optimal position to get a player that can contribute day 1.
Obviously the picks ahead of us will dictate who we have a chance to acquire, but with the abundance of 1st round talent at need positions available, our chances of being in the same situation we were in the 1st where we're guaranteed a player we want is a certainty.
The Houston Texans have the 1st pick of the 2nd round and the general feeling is they'll go QB, while it's not a given I think the best player available for them is Derek Carr.
The Redskins get their first pick of the draft, defense is an option and so is the offensive line. With teams like Miami reaching to grab their Tackles in the 1st round, I don't think washington can afford to pass on filling their need at Right Tackle and keeping RGIII upright. Morgan Moses? Joel Bitonio?
The Cleveland browns already got their corner and QB, the smart move would be to protect their investment, they have a need on the right side of the line and can still draft the top rated guard which would prevent them from having to move their Right Tackle inside and drafting a OT. But I have a feeling they're going to bring in Marqise Lee to play opposite Gordon, after all as great as Gordon is, he's 1 suspension away from missing a year I think.
Which brings us to The Raiders, While my hope is that Lee gets passed cleveland, I don't see it happening. Lee would be the true #1 the Raiders are looking for and a steal at this pick in the draft. If the Texans don't take Carr, he's definitely a possibility at this pick if the rumors of the Raiders liking him that much are true. If Lee isn't there and neither is Carr, the Raiders could definitely pull the trigger on a Receiver like Matthews, Adams or Lattimer. Or they could take some of the 1st round defensive line talent that's fallen into the 2nd round, Nix, Hegeman, Tuitt are all available and all would fill a need on our Defensive line making our hybrid 3-4/4-3 defense that much more potent.
I would prefer the Raiders don't draft a QB here in the 2nd round and instead take the BPA which would give us another 1st round talent and potential starter.
