If the Carr doesn't start...

For all the great things I can say about Reggie McKenzie, handling our QB situation isn't one of them.

Matt Flynn - Only started 2 games as a Packer before the Raiders signed him as their designated starter. Oakland gave up a 5th round pick in 2014 & a conditional 2015 draft pick for him . Flynn received $3.5M & was cut after only 5 months with the team.

Tyler Wilson - Was selected in the 4th round of the 2013 draft after throwing for 21 TDs & 13INTs his redshirt senior year. He was cut before the regular season.

Matt Schaub - Tossed 10 Touchdowns Vs 14 Interceptions during 10 games in 2013 (including an NFL record 4 straight games with a Pick-6). Oakland gave up a 6th round pick in the 2014 draft & signed him for $8.5M.

Matt McGloin - Showed flashes, but his situation was never handled right. He got thrown to the wolves in 2013 after the season was already lost. He put us in position to win a few games last year but our defense couldn't close out those games. Even though he & our defense are much improved this preseason, he is only used as a bench warmer.

Derek Carr - looks very promising! However, Carr was probably the best QB to enter the 2014 draft. With Blake Bortles, Johnny Manziel, & Teddy Bridgewater already off the board, Reggie was thrown a bone. Especially with Mr. Pick-6 Matt Schaub, Trent Edwards, & UDFA Matt "Moxie" McGloin (who was never going to get a realistic shot at starting anyway) as the future of the team.

Recap: 3 bad QBs, 1 UDFA that can't catch a break, & a great talent that only slipped to us by chance. How much do you trust Reggie McKenzie handling our QB situation if Carr isn't named starter or if he leaves after his rookie contract expires?

(Important Caveat: I know that the 4th - 6th round picks that Oakland has used on or to aquire some of these QBs don't seem all that important now, but the Raiders know how to scrape the bottom of the barrel for talent. Denarius Moore was a 5th round pick. Mychal Rivera & Latavius Murray were 6th rounders. Brice Butler, T.J Carrie, & David Ausberry were all taken in the 7th & all mentioned players are starters or important contributers. These wasted picks could have been used as bargaining chips to move up in future drafts. Not to mention the cap hits & guaranteed money wasted on those failed Quarterbacks.)
