There are now 40 days and 40 nights until the Raiders kick off their 2015 season opener and ten days until the preseason opener. With that we look at the best to wear number 40 for the Raiders
Who wore it best: FB Pete Banaszak
A fifth round draft pick by the Raiders in 1966, this bruising fullback spent his entire 13-year career in Oakland. In his second season with the team, they were in the Super Bowl. The Raiders would be a playoff team for 10 of the next 11 years. In 1975, Banaszak led the team with 672 yards rushing. The following year, the Raiders would win the Super Bowl. He is the Raiders' sixth all-time leading rusher with 3772 career rushing yards. His 47 career rushing touchdowns are second most in team history behind only Marcus Allen (79).
Who's wearing it now: RB Michael Dyer
And undrafted free agent for the Raiders this offseason, this former Auburn National Championship hero bounced around to several schools in his college career, eventually finishing his college days at Louisville. Thus far in camp, the 5-9, 220-pounder is showing some of the skills that once had him as one of the highest rated college running backs. He has long been my pick as the most likely of the team's undrafted free agents to make the team out of camp.
