Calvin Johnson to Raiders would make sense in 2016

+

"The Raiders' offense is blossoming under rookie No. 1 wideout Amari Cooper and quarterback Derek Carr. Cooper has been so special, he has essentially brought the career of possession wideout Michael Crabtree back to life. But Crabtree is on a one-year, $3.2 million deal and will be looking for a raise when he becomes a free agent this offseason. He's only two years younger than Johnson and light years behind him in talent. And Johnson causes more matchup problems in a month than Crabtree has in his entire career. The Raiders are going to be in the market this offseason for another wideout. And Oakland's quarterbacks coach just so happens to be Todd Downing, an assistant who spent three years (2011-2013) as a quarterbacks coach for the Lions. The same three years that account for the best output in Calvin Johnson's career. That is serendipitous for the Raiders. And the money? Well, Oakland's cap room next season is staggering," Yahoo's Charles Robinson wrote (read the full story here).

Chargers coach: Raiders present challenge on both edges of defense

+

"You’ve got a challenge on both edges, so you’ve got to make sure everybody understands the scheme and how we’re blocking things. You’ve got to neutralize them to a certain extent. All the great players in this league, they make their plays. You’ve always got to know where they are and how they’re doing certain things. So you’ve got to do a great job of having good balance in the game and try to take advantage of what we can do," Mike McCoy said when asked about Aldon Smith and Khalil Mack.

Cooper defends Pacman, says he shouldn't be suspended

2

"Football is a physical game," Cooper said Sunday night. "Things like that happen. … I feel like the refs didn’t see it well. If they did, they probably would’ve given a harsher penalty. I don’t think he should be suspended. We were just playing physical. I should’ve been playing physical. Honestly, I didn’t even know I hit my head on the helmet . . . Whatever you saw happen, that’s what happened . . . I’m here to play football. I don’t back down from anybody and I’m not out here trying to start anything. I’m just out here playing football."

Tuck: Raiders' D could be special, but hasn't done a thing yet

+

"I think we have a defense that can be reckoned with in this league," Tuck said Tuesday. "I’ve been around a long time and have learned that, sometimes you can surprise yourself one way or the other. We’re working every day to build this defense and become a powerhouse but, until we go out there and do it, I’m going to reserve my accolades until we’ve actually earned them. They haven’t done a thing. None of us have . . . What I’m excited about is that we’ve gotten better every week. Hopefully we can continue to do that this season. Ask me that question again in February. Hopefully I’ll have a great answer for you."
