Checking In From Oakland Raider Training Camp: Day Three

Wow, Raider fans, there is a buzz in this place today! The signing of Kevin Boss has everyone pumped, you can feel it.

On my way in I greeted Jim Plunkett in the parking lot and then passed my man Maurice Bradshaw in the lobby. Have I told you that I am in heaven?

While everyone here is looking for an angle or some breaking news for their REAL job, I am here taking it all in. You know, living the dream of any fan writer.

I have Vito, J-Mac and Corc in here while I type away at these keys. For the first time in my writing "Career", I don't have to copy and paste a link from them in order to get the scoop. I am living the scoop.

I knew that Boss was coming here before anyone else because I had dinner next to he and Hue the other night. I just did not want to blow their cover because, as a fan, I didn't want the Giants or any other team to think that he may actually be coming here.

I bet that Adam Schefter is eating his man panties right now just thinking about the Oakland Raiders getting under the cap WITHOUT losing anybody and THEN signing Boss for 4 milayear.

We just got out of the officials meeting where they go over the new rules for the year and I even received a handy dandy OFFICIAL rule book that has the stats for every penalty committed in 2010, broken down by team, as well as the new rules for 2011.

I will have updates on these after practice, but, in short, a jersey near the collar is now a horse-collar, the qb's will be even more protected and Calvin Johnson's catch is still NOT a catch!

We are off to the field in 15 minutes, so I have to get ready: Be sure to follow me on Twitter @silverandblackp for all of the Oakland Raider Updates. For those of you expecting video, I have had some technical difficulties, but I have a ton of footage for all of you!

Trying Not to Freak Out About the Raiders Free Agent Situation

As you know as a regular reader of the site, XFINITY is a sponsor of Silver and Black Pride and has generously agreed to support the best NFL community around – us! In 2011, XFINITY will continue to provide a variety of special editorial and interactive features throughout the season, including exclusive offseason insights and analysis.

I am back acting as XFINITY Pitchman. So read this with your internal volume cranked up to Billy Mays (RIP) levels as we Oxiclean the hell out of this sponsored post about free agency. After all, it's not just agency; it's free agency.

This is actually a decent time for this forum since we have been spending plenty of time talking about free agency lately. We had the Michael Bush saga come full circle yesterday.

I've been blowing the trumpet that a new CBA being reached was going to lead to Michael Bush going from a restricted free agent to a restricted free agent. And that in turn was going to lead to the departure of Michael Bush.

Well, it turns out that he may not be an unrestricted free agent after all. Great success, but that does little do help the reason I feared he was leaving in the first place: the Raiders have no cap room. In fact, if their "dead" money counts they will be over the cap. Maybe as much as $15 million, depending on what the cap is set at etc.. Jump over for the exciting conclusion....

NFL Playoff Open Thread: 01-08-11: New Orleans @ Seattle, Jets @ Colts

I am in Scottsdale AZ for the weekend and plan on watching these games a few local establishments, so if any of you have an idea on where to watch the games, please let me know.

The Saints and Seahawks will be kicking off at 4:30 Eastern Time on Fox and on paper this looks like a blow-out waiting to happen. Curently, the Saints are a -10.5 favorite or -600 on the money line while the under over is only 44. That means that the pros think this will likely be a 28-17 game, but, I don't see it even being that close.

Matt Hasselbeck will be starting for Seattle, but, I just don't see the Hawks running game being able to get going which means that Matt will be exposed to a fierce pass rush all day and 12th man in Seattle or not, I se the score being closer to 42-10, than 28-17.

New Orleans will be missing Pierre Thomas and Chris Ivory, so look for a lot of spread offense and for Reggie Bush to get over 20 touches today.

The game that most interests me today is the battle between the New York Jets and Indianapolis Colts. This has all the makings of a classic AFC battle.

In this rematch of Super Bowl III, you have the young pretty boy from New York going against the savvy veteran who knows how to win. Sound familiar? Well it should!

The line may look a bit surprising as the Colts are 2.5 point favorites. But don't be fooled. The Colts are better than everyone thinks and the media darling Jets are worse than everyone thinks.

I see the Colts winning this game in the final minutes by 4 points. I just think that Payton Manning has been on a hot streak lately and he has found ways to win games in the final minutes. I don't expect tonight's game to be any different. The over under is currently 44.5.

Well Raider fans, let's hope and pray that Al Davis has his plan in place. I have said this once and will say it again, "Directly from the horses mouth, JON GRUDEN said that he would come back to coach the Oakland Raiders in a heart beat. All Al has to do is ask." AD has eaten crow before and has admitted that he tried to concel the deal after he traded Gruden to Tampa, but couldn't retract it. Chucky may be back in Oakland. If it isn't Hue, then, it's Chucky. Either way, i am looking for one of them to get this organization in position to be in this post season thread next season.

Cheers,

Saint

Oakland Raiders 2011 Draft: Wisniewski, Stanzi and Moch

Now, there are three names that i haven't thought much about, YET, I am sure that these names will be coming up over the next few months quite a bit.

Stefen Wisniewski is the son of former Raider O-Line Great and team Captain, Steve Wisniewski, which probably means that like Chris Long, son of Howie, we will see him taken above our selection, but, I can dream right?

Wisniewski is the type of player that teams like New England, Green Bay and Indy collect like prizes and they end up playing for 10 years and solidify the way that those teams play the game. Although, according to the online scouting reports, he lacks the explosive punch that we all hear Mike Mayock speak of so often, he is the perfect fit for the zone blocking scheme.

Stefen is quick for a Center and has a deep knowledge of his responsibilities in his assignments. He could be snapping the ball on every offensive play for the next 10 years. I know that adding "Mini-Wiz" to the fold would also excite the fanbase.

Ricky Stanzi is a winner, plain and simple. He isn't Andrew Luck, by any stretch of the imagination, but I have always been impressed with Ricky and I think that he would be a steal in the 4th Round, but they may need to take him in the t3rd if they want him.

Stanzi is quick on his feet and is a leader on the field. He has played through pain, which has effected his numbers, but he seems to always have his team overachieving and I think that he has the brain to play QB in the NFL.

This brings us to my find of the day. I know that many of you have seen this guys fly up draft boards and some of you have seen him play. I am telling you that this guy is absolutely NO JOKE and his name is Dontay Moch.

Dontay brings a special combination of speed, finesse and power to the defensive side of the ball. He only weighs 242 pounds but he can toss aside 300 pound linemen and wreak havic in the offensive backfield with his 4.38 speed.

Watch this video: Video

Now, tell me if you don't think that he would be the perfect compliment to McClain and Wimbley? Can you say weakside blitz?

If you want to see Moch live, he will be playing in the Kraft Fighting Hunger Bowl in SF on the 9th of January as the 12th seeded Nevada-Reno team takes on Boston College.

I'm not sure what got me off on this tangent this morning, I think it was the fact that I want to be optimistic about the future and seeing the names that could join this team in the off-season makes me smile a bit.

Cheers,

Saint

Oh You Raiders!

Oh you Raiders,

You've done it again,

There is a voice alive in Oakland,

That says you will win!

It is not the lone voice of Al,

Who's passion blinds him at times,

It the collective voice of ALL,

I'm even writing stupid rhymes.

Have the Oakland Raiders done it? Have they drawn you back in? That is a real question.

I mean, we have been dumped on by a HUGE wave of everything putrid in the NFL from the moment the last second ticked off the clock in San Diego 8 years ago.

Things got so bad that the Raiders, for the second time in their history, had to build from the ground up. Are you buying what they are selling?

Are you "In" with Cable? Are you still "In" with Captain Tom if Mate Hue leaves for another ship?

Is the defense headed in the right direction and if so, is John Marshall the answer or does Waufle step up?

Has McFadden electrified you? Do you believe in Jason Campbell? Is Jacoby Ford the second coming of Steve Smith or the first edition of Jacoby Ford?

Has Rolando McClain been the missing leader on defense? Is Houson-Kelly-Seymour-Shaughnessy front four making you stand up and yell, "Sack!" or "Stuffed"? Was Seymour's slap of "Ratlisburger" a rallying cry?

Does 6-0 in the Division mean something to you?

I wanna know Raider Nation. Are you back "In"?

Poll: McFadden, Ford, Janikowski or Kelly: Which Oakland Raider Was The Biggest Pro Bowl Snub

Let's see, you have the featured back with the most yards per touch in the AFC, Darren McFadden (Sorry Charlie, Jamal Charles is still a change of pace back). You also have the AFC scoring leader, Sebastian Janikowski, who just booted two 50 yard kicks in the same game. You have the Three Technique DT with the most sacks, Tommie Kelly, and a rookie, Jacoby Ford, who has returned three kickoffs to paydirt and has got to be the most exciting young return man in the game.

That would have made seven Pro-Bowlers from a 7-8 team. I guess there is your answer. But, who do you think got the biggest snub?

Oakland Raider Playoff Hopes: The Final Ingredient on Offense

Raider Nation, it appears that Jason Campbell has put most of this offensive game plan together. He made great decisions against San Diego. He ran when he should have, dumped off when he should have and even threw a few balls away instead of taking a sack.

With the rushing game plan finally being able to be executed and McFadden, Bush and Reece pounding away at the D-Line, forcing the defense to play eight in the box, the deep pass has been open at least 3-5 times a game.

Last week in particular, Jacoby Ford, was wide open and Campbell missed him by 10 yards when all it took was a deep lob to the middle of the field for six points. It looks like Campbell is still not comfortable with the speed at the wide receiver position.

This goes back to every time that Campbell and his wide-outs have said that they need consistency in order to develop timing with the quarterbacks.

Believe you me, if Campbell and his receivers can get their timing down for this game against the Jacksonville Jaguars and for the rest of the season, for that matter, the offense will put them in position to win out.

It will, once again, be beat them up then kill them deep Oakland Raider football!!!

Go RAIDERS!!!!!
