Well, it looks like there is one up and coming bright young mind that wants to take the reigns of our beloved Silver & Black.

It is being reported that Lane Kiffin, Son of Monte as he shall be called until he goes .500, is set to accept the Raiders coaching position at 11AM today.

I am not sure how all of this played out, but it sure is ironic that Al Davis got what he said he was looking for from the start. He stated that he was looking for someone with play calling experience on the offensive side of the ball. That is something that Sark did not have and "The Son of Monte" does.

I wonder if Al pulled the old switch-a-roo on Sark and that is why he took the high road.

Some USC fans laugh at Kiffin's play calling and say that the reason Sark is even there is because Carrol does not trust Kiffin and uses Sark as a filter of the play calling.

What I do know about this move is:

A) Son of Monte has seen this year's draft class up close and personal for three-five years and should help us have one helluva draft.

B) USC did not miss a step when Norm Chow left, in part because of SOM's ability to play call.

C) AL's young coaches have never failed. From Madden to "Rat"-a-Han to Gruden they have all been very successful.

On the surface this is a MUCH better hire than Shell last year.

I Credit Kiffin's Courage

What will we describe as a success for our Raiders? 4-12, 6-10, 8-8? Next year's roster won't be defined by wins and losses. It will be defined by what we will describe as optimism based on results.

We take the defense for granted. they are fast and young and are one wide body away from being really tough on the D-line.

Offensively, the issues are many. See yesterday's post in response to ChinaBob for details. But what is the big picture here? Fewer sacks, interceptions, fumbles. More touchdowns, but more importantly how we get them? Let's hope we will be pleased with the RECONSTRUCTION of the offense that we all hope for.

Some mention of Kiffin's abrasive personality has come forth? Who cares until we see wether or not he's in control or the inmates are still running the asylum.

I wonder who he will bring in as his OC, and I also wonder how the hole hiring went down?

If Trestman is brought in, it will look like AL is calling the shots again. If he lets Kiffin interview new candidates, he may be letting him have more power.

I am glad that it is a 5 year deal. It looks like his contract will outlast Lord Al. Than again, I can see a round bottle on a desk attached to cords, vocal software and generators that contains only Al's brain in 2090!!!

Coordinator: How offensive can we get

Bringing back Trestman doesn't seem to be the worst thing in the world it depends how collaborative he will be with his/Al's staff. I am curious to see what changes will be made. An overhaul is due b/c I don't see Biltenikoff/Brown etc. as having the impact I would expect.

The Raiders could potentially take some time with the OC and get someone very imaginative who communicates well. We are really fortunate to have Ryan.
