Oakland Raiders vs Chicago Bears: Game Day Thread

I'm heading off to the game where I HOPE to see the Raiders light up the Bears.

I expect to see tons of running today by the Silver and Black. I also expect the Bears to try and light up the deep routes and expose Schwag even more if Nnamdi and/or Fabe are out.

On the bright side of things, John Bowie, should make his debut today. I really liked what I saw from him in the preseason.

The thing that I liked best was his ability to tackle. I just wish he were 30 lbs heavier so that he could unseat that worthless, FS, Schwag!!!

Hold down the fort while I'm gone!!!

Go RRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIDDDDDDDDDDDDDDEEEEEEEERRSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

McCown completes his first pass...
...and it's not to the other team, so that's progress of sorts.

Same old Raiders
McCown completes a good pass to Jerry Porter to start a drive....then a penalty that kills the momentum.

Kick to Devin Hester, stop him for no gain...15 yard penalty.

What is it about this team?  They've had so many coaches and players, yet it never stops.

Bizarro Universe
McCown is playing really well and Huggy Bear can't get anywhere.

O-Line given up two sacks already.  Not good.

Still, the defense is playing well so it's a push so far.

Gotta jet.  Hope things are going great by the time I get back.

3 to 3
Come back to a tie game and the Bears missing a field goal.

Neither of these teams are very good are they?

McCown playing surprisngly effectively.  Only 3 points though.  Even when he plays well, I don't think this guy can inspire.

Still no run game to speak of.  Fargas has 38 yards on 11 carries.  Not a single carry for Rhodes yet.

Stu is the team's leading tackler.  Go figure.  Everyone seems to be playing well there.

Ugh. This team needs a spark.
McCown playing less well know.  I notice Fargas is the leading receiver on the team, lending weight to saint's nickname of "McCheckdown"

Kiff:  Give up.  Admit the guy is mediocre.  The teams needs a spark.  It needs a change.

Put.  Him.  In.

You know who I mean.

I will say this though
Kiffin challenged them to shut down Hester and they are responding.  I know the guy can break off a game-changing play at any moment but they're doing real well so far.

Even with Asomugha and Washington out, the secondary is having one of its best games of the season so far.  Hope it keeps up.

Looks like Benson isn't getting well against our run defense so far.  18 carries, 48 yards.  Does Warren have that much of an impact?  He is a big ol' load in the center.

Kiffin:  JaMarcus.  JaMarcus.  JaMarcus.

Who cares if it causes them to lose the game?  You aren't going to snap off an 8 game winning streak, which is what needs to happen if this team is going to make the playoffs.

Put him in.  You know you want to.

I see Higgins has been yanked as returner
I predict a limited future for him in Oakland.

Thanks again, Kiff and McClown
for coughing up another loss in a game we could have easily won.

When you have field position in the midfield in the second half of the game, and you keep a QB in there that cannot make any completions, then any conventional wisdom says you have to put in another QB.

Daunte would have gotten us at least 10 more completions and five more first downs.

Please tell me how we did not win by a field goal?

Honestly, I hope Kiff and McClown laugh about this when they are in bed together tonight because the nation is sick of having an inferior QB go out there instead of Daunte!

Fuck this bullshit!!

If this finally ends the McClown Era in Oakland...
...I can live with the loss, I guess.

Kiffin cannot offer one justifiable reason for starting McCown next week after this fiasco.

Barely 100 yards and not a single TD?  Come on.  That's embarrassing for an NFL QB.

They could have and should have won this game.  The defense kept them in it.  The special teams shut down Hester.  All they needed was a little leadership, a little spark from the quarterback position.  Just one play!

Culpepper #1, Russell #2 next week.  Anything else will be nothing short of insanity.

Here's the stats:
14/27 108 yards 0 TD's 1 INT

After a surprisingly efficient first half, McCown reverts to form in the second.

When your QB completes barely 50 percent of his passes and doesn't have a single TD pass, something is wrong.

Kiffin simply CANNOT justify keeping McCown in there next week.  He couldn't inspire a Pop Warner team to perform.  When your running back has the most catches of anyone of the offense, it shows one thing:  your QB can't make downfield throws and can only dump it off.

McCown is a loser.  A nobody.  A career backup.

It's Daunte or it's JaMarcus.  McCown is finished.

Incomprehensible that McCown
is still on this roster, he will never start another game in the NFL after he leaves Oakland, yet he starts because he "gives us the best chance to win".
I am so sick of the Raiders running out mediocre QB's for the past 5 years.  I was fine with Walter last year because he was in his 2nd year and at least I hoped he would improve, but McCown?  There is really no excuse for this.

by chinabob on Nov 11, 2007 4:30 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

There's no way....
...Walter could've been worse than McCown.

I can't understand why Walter didn't start the season with Daunte as backup until he knew the playbook better.

Wasn't that Kiff's excuse "Josh knows the playbook better."

Well, I promise you that #1 that isn't so anymore, Daunte knows the playbook just fine now and #2 it clearly doesn't matter if McCown knows the offense better because he can't get it done anyway.

No one can tell me Walter would not have done just as well if not better.

This clown should've been #3 until JaMarcus was activated and then cut loose to drift off into oblivion.  He'll find a third string spot somewhere next season and be out of football by 2009.

Walter would have given us a better chance
I encourage people to hold up signs at the Coli expressing their displeasure at this mockery of common sense!

Another squandered chance at a win, blown before we even won the game.

We will never win a game with Checkdown at the wheel.

If he were piloting a ship, we'd have another oil spill in the bay area.

Y'wanna hear something funny?
Slosh McClown said his timing is off because he joined camp late!

Is this jackass serious!?

This is the middle of the season, douchebag!!

Your ass better own that loss and just tell the media you are an inferior quarterback.

Your high school coach should be slapped in the face!!

I saw that B.S.
Didn't he say something like, "I missed the March minicamps, which is when the QB and the wide receivers really start to gel."

I just wanna say to him, "Really, you jackoff?  So that doesn't happen through  the minicamp that follows the draft or training camp or the preseason or the first games of the regular season?"

What a fucking ass.

That game was fully winnable, despite his shitty second half play, except that he put it on the ground deep in our territory with 2 minutes left.

That's all him.  Nothing to do with the receivers or the running game or the defense. That was him.
