Carr & Johnson or Russell and Moss?

Schaub is now the Texans QB and Carr will be traded.

Johnson and Russell are the top two players of interest for the Raiders and what happens with Carr may make up the decision as to who is taken #1 overall.

The Pros for Johnson:

  1. He is the most talented receiver that I have ever seen coming out of college. His playmaking ability will make him an instant threat in this league. He has the ability to jump like Randy Moss and is a much better route runner already than our former star, #18.
  2. He will also, most likely, take less money as a bonus than Russell and that can only help our cap situation.
  3. IF we get David Carr, Calvin Johnson will team up with Jerry Porter to give one of the most accurate passers in the NFL great targets that may very well break the All-Time RAC records, seperately or combined.
On Russell:

If the team does not land David Carr that is even further evidence that JaMarcus will be our #1 pick.

(The sleeper in this whole deal can be if "Son of Monte" is sold on AW. Remember that he saw Andrew Walter up close and personal while at USC and he may chose Johnson to be a weapon for Walter.)

I would and have liked CJ the whole time
If GB will take Moss for 3rd rounder and Rodgers and we can land  Carr for a 5th rounder, not ours but the one we got from NE for Gabriel then move parts and draft Calvin.

Our receivers would be sick: #1 Porter, #2 CJ, #3 Curry, #4 Gabriel, plus excess of Morant etc.

QB's Carr, Walter, Rodgers, Booty. Nothing like competition and now if Carr can't get it done we have 2 capable young QB's in the wings.

Our RB's are set except a true scat back, maybe grab one in the 3rd round(we would have 2 now)

With the 2nd round pick hopefully Tony Ugh, the  tackle falls to us.

We would really rebuild the offense quick and have QB's who have league expierence. David Carr was really never given a chance to succeed at Texas with his offensive line.

We may make a huge mistake not drafting a franchise QB, but CJ will definately be a pro bowl wide out, and he isn't a pre madonna to boot.

i think Al takes the QB though

I have been pondering this for a week now
The key position on almost every team is the QB, and can you truly pass up a guy with Russell's skills? On the other hand a lot of can't miss QB's have missed badly, as have a lot of can't miss receivers.
If Russell is drafted then truly the Raiders don't think Walter will ever be a good QB.   I happen to think Al likes Walter, and that is why I have this feeling the Raiders will trade out of #1, and then try and pick Johnson #3 or #4.   There seems to be 4 can't miss players, Russell, Petersen, Johnson and Thomas, and who knows what Al thinks about Quinn.
A team could trade down to #5 and get one of those players, and presumably get good value from whoever trades with you.  No doubt there are a lot of teams who would love to have Russell.  Whatever happens the Raiders are in a good position.   I can't remember Al ever trading down, he has always traded up to get a player so we will see, but a lot of fun speculating.
