Oakland Raider News: Who's Your Choice?

As an avid FOOTBALL fan, I have watched nearly every playoff football weekend for 27 years.

There is nothing like playoff football. Each week it is win or go home and there is nothing like one game for all the marbles. Each week is a 7th game of the Series.

As an even MORE avid RAIDER fan, I always root for or against certain teams because of their Raiders ties. It is because of Charles Woodson being a Packer now, even more than Brett Favre's intrigue, that I want Green Bay to win the Super Bowl. It is also because of the "Snow Job" and "Spy Gate" that I want the Patriots to lose every game that they play, regardless of the fact that my brother dated Tom Brady's sister and that some of my boys are good friends with him.

This weekend gives us a chance to watch some ex-Raiders and others with Bay Area ties:

Giants: Ex-Raiders: Kevin Boothe, Dave Tollefson
Local Guys: Amani Toomer (De La Salle)

Packers: Charles Woodson, James Jones (San Jose St.), Desmond Bishop (Cal), Aaron Rodgers (Cal)

Chargers: Who cares, IT'S THE FREAKING CHARGERS!!! (The reason Rodney Harrison is a Pat is because he didn't want to play against the Chargers twice a year)

Pats: Who Cares, I hate them all.

So, who did I miss? And which way do you lean?

To be honest
if the Raiders are not playing I am usually indifferent as to who wins/loses.  It would be really difficult for me to root for SD, and in some ways the Giants post season run was kind of nice, Eli has gotten so much heat so it was a good story to see him have some success.
I was much more interested in a new draft order which has Miami going for Ryan, St. Louis getting Dorsey, Atlanta going for McFadden and Chris Long falling to the Raiders, I could take that quite easily.  Burgess and Long would be a nice bookend for the line.  If Sands would wake up he could be a dominant force, the only question would be the other defensive tackle, Warren might be nice but he might also be very expensive.  It doesn't solve the linebacker problem but maybe there is a solid free agent somewhere.  How much would I like Amanti Samuel to bookend with Nhambi?  Huff at free safety, then a BIG defensive hitting SS.  In a short time some of the defensive deficiencies might get solved.

Erin Henderson:
Long in the first and Henderson in the 2nd.

That would set us up nicely on the defensive front.

I'd still like Silva in the 4th and Monk and Jackson in the 6th and 7th.

That would be my dram job.

I like the Giants v. Pats
because I hate the Chargers and I have a certain packfan to shut up.

Let's play the game and get to the draft already!

Raiders Legacy
For me, rooting for a team in any given game is all about Raider legacy.

So, for this years' championship teams, the biggest effect on the Raiders legacy are teams that can boast the greatest number of Superbowl wins.  Right now the Raiders, Patriots and Packers have 3, the Giants have 2 and the Chargers have 0.

So I will root, in order, for the Chargers then the Giants.  If it had been Packers/Patriots, then the next step in Raiders legacy is claim for greatest team of all time.  For that reason I'd have to go with the Packers b/c if they beat the Patriots no one would be making that claim.

If one really thinks about it, Raidrs legacy can play a role to some extent in every football game played.  One reason to always root against the Cowboys and Dolphins (greatest success since the 60s).

That is the same reason that I rooted:
For the Cards to lose the World Series two seasons ago.

That win gave them 10 and now the Athletics are third ALL-Time in WS wins.
