Oakland Raiders News: Is The Raider's Aggressiveness A Good Thing

According to published reports, the Oakland Raiders will be signing Gibril Wilson from the NY Giants for more money than he was asking.

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of locking up a talented YOUNG nucleus for years to come and Wilson has a few things going for him; Super Bowl Champ (Davis Loves THOSE), Play making Safety and he is a local boy from San Jose; BUT 6-6.5 milayear is a bit over the top for a player who should be making 4-5 milayear.

The Raiders also went AGGRESSIVELY after Tommy Kelly and made him the richest DT in the NFL.

Yes, that is the same Tommy Kelly that cannot stay healthy and has never registered more than 5 sacks in a season.

The money that they gave Kelly means that Chris Clemons (Our most effective D-Lineman in 2007) is a goner.

I know that you have to overpay when you have the worst record in football over the last 5 seasons and your team is SAID to be in turmoil, but is this aggressiveness being sent in the proper direction?

If that aggressiveness lands Kwame Harris, as has been reported, then on the outside, I would have to "Yes, this aggressiveness is misguided", then again, I have to trust Cable's judgment. Cable knows who will fit his system and who won't.

So, as the Raider World turns, I'll be keeping you updated on the moves and what I think.

Maybe the Raider are as sold on Gholston as I am? Only time will tell.

And I do know that LaMont, Rhodes and Barry are all wondering where they will be next year.

I trust Sapp on this
Sapp is high on Kelly so that is good enough for me.  Apparently Denver and the Saints were also.  Kelly was too big to be an end, but perfect for a run stopping tackle. I question the Kwame Harris signing only because I have listened to the 49er fans on KNBR who have targeted him for everything wrong with the 49ers. If they in fact get the safety who is supposed to be good then I am all for it.  It makes the Gholston pick seem more likely now with Kelly and Sands signed for many years.   Too bad about Clemons, but there are other guys out there to be picked up.  Clemons had done nothing until he arrived in Oakland so will be surprised if he breaks the bank anywhere else.  I am not sure about Richardson as to whether or not he is a true defensive end, we'll see.  At least we can now see that the Raider management agrees with us about the deficiencies.   Big hitting safety, run stopping tackle, and one big linebacker needed. If Chris Long is sitting there at #4, then he  is the pick, if not, hopefully Gholston.

Were Kwame Harris' problems a result of the system
I don't watch the Niners enough to know, but could it be a result of the Whiners' crappy offensive sets?

I'm not so sure on the Kelly thing
but it is a waaaaay better move than giving Alex Smith that ridiculous contract extenstion over in Whiner-land!
The Raider Nation is the only Nation.

Do you guys think Isaac Bruce has enough left
in the tank, to give him a look? He was released today as well.

word on the street is...
he's going to SF.  I think he's got decent enough hands to be a good third-option/slot receiver.  Better than anyone else they have.

He'd Be A God-Send:
That being said, IT WON'T HAPPEN.

The Rams will step up and pay him or he will probably land with a team that can win NOW.

Vernon Gholston for president
Gholston is who I want the Raiders to draft. He has the star appeal and leadership plus talent that our defense needs. We need some chaos, if we are bent on not blitzing like other teams then we need some talent rushing the passer. There is no too-high a pick for the draft. Take who you like it is not an exact science.
I prefer the aggressive Raiders then the turmoil Raiders. Go Raiders
