Oakland Raiders News: Jerry Porter Is A Jaguar

The sad saga of Jerry Porter's tenure in Oakland has come to a sudden end as he has signed a 6 year 30 million dollar deal with the Jaguars, with 10 million dollars being up front.

It is a perfect fit for JP, and I wish him the best. He is from FLA, and now he can play for a team on the rise and finally have NO excuses for failure.

More than anything I am happy that David Garrard will have JP to throw to.

So, Raider Fans, one more chip has fallen and I am wondering what is next.

He said he wanted out
was always somewhat of a malcontent in Oakland. If he is going to be happier in Florida, so be it.  Porter wouldn't fit in Oakland anymore anyway because Curry and Porter are essentially the same player.  Porter is better but he never was a guy to break open for long plays.  Earlier in his career he did make some big plays, but there was always a more potent receiver in Oakland.  I am still waiting to hear if the Raiders got the Giants safety and if they did where does he play?  I believe he is a free safety and if that is the case where does Huff go?
Huff is probably best suited to be a free safety.  What about Warren?  I don't see his name on the free agent list, is he obligated to the Raiders?  I am sure the Raiders would like to trade Jordan but probably no takers so will be released in June when the cap hit is less.  I wonder if the Raiders will make a run at Kearse.  If they lose Clemons then perhaps Kearse fills that void.  Al loves to get guys off the dump heap.  It has worked out beautifully several times.  Plunkett, Alzado, the Tooz.

The "Freak" Will Fit:
There is definitely a plan in place here and I can't wait to see it unfold.

I am nearly sold on the fact that Gholston OR Chris Long will be a Raider.

Devin Thomas will fill in nicely for the underachieving Porter and MAY be available in the 2nd round.

Well Kwame Harris, maybe a reality, or they
think Jake Long will be available.

Left tackle Barry Sims, who held off three tackles drafted in the first round who were supposed to take his job, has apparently reached the end of the line with the Raiders.

Sims, according to Bay Area News Group beat writer Steve Corkran, was informed of his release Friday.

WOW!!!!!
He will open up some pretty serious cap room, but he is leaving a HUGE hole at LT...That is unless, as we've speculated, Mario Henderson is ready.

As I see it,
the Raiders would be happy with either of these 3 guys in the draft in the 1st round:
Chris or Jake Long, or Gholston.  Each of those guys would fill a need for Oakland.  In my opinion, Gholston is the most likely to be available at #4.  I imagine that Chris or Jake will be taken by Miami, St.Louis or Atlanta.  However, Atlanta needs a QB so they may go for Ryan.  Dorsey seems to be falling so he might be available, but don't think Oakland wants him.  Al likes tall tackles, not short Sapp types. St. Louis might bite on McFadden.  I can't remember a time when an offensive lineman was taken with the 1st pick in the draft so doubt if Miami takes Jake. I have to believe that Miami will try and trade out of #1.   I think the Raiders are in the cat bird seat, they can't miss on getting a player they need.  I think Jake will probably go to St. Louis.  It looks to me like Chris or Gholston will be there for Oakland, they have to pick which they really want.  I am torn on this, I have always felt they need an impact linebacker more than a defensive end, but how could Al ever pass on Chris Long?  Too much history there.  Checking every hour on the safety from NY, heard nothing yet, and no one has clarified the Warren status for me.

Warren's contract:

I heard he was due a LARGE roster bonus, but it only looks like 5 milayear for him this year. That would be a deal, compared to Kelly!!!

Thanks, Saint
So the ball is in Oakland's court. If they want Warren he is theirs, if not, then the draft will be wide open.  I would opt to keep him, then draft for a greater need.

Asante Samuels is gone, and Randall Gay is
next.  If the Pats lose those 2, and Moss, they may be in trouble.

PHILADELPHIA -- The Eagles have signed free-agent cornerback Asante Samuel.

Cornerback Randall Gay has a second visit scheduled in free agency.

Gay is set to visit the Saints on Saturday morning, and is also scheduled to meet with the Buccaneers on Monday.

Josh McCown is playing for the Tuna
After a busy morning of making deals, the Dolphins signed free-agent QB Josh McCown, who started nine games for the Raiders last year, to a two-year deal, $6.25 million contract Friday afternoon. He could start in Week 1 for Miami.

Adam Schefter says we have a new Safety
Raiders land former Giant safety Wilson
Oakland continued the spending frenzy it started before free agency.

The Raiders reached an agreement with former New York Giants free-agent safety Gibril Wilson on a six-year contract worth $39 million, including $16 million guaranteed. The Giants had a rough Friday. They lost Wilson, and linebackers Kawika Mitchell and Reggie Torbor.

Wow, isn't this a fun time?
I'm happy for Josh, he tried but in reality is not a  full time QB.  That means Walter stays which is fine with me. I felt that Kiffin never gave him a good chance.  He got penalized for being the starter when Shell was the coach.  I can live with him being the backup QB. Very happy about getting Wilson, if he is as good as advertised then he fills a BIG hole.  I think he is a free safety which means the idea of moving to Huff to free safety is out the window.
By the way, don't you think it is laughable when sportswriters talk about no one wanting to play for Oakland?  Players go where the money is, simple as that.  In Wilson's case he is from San Jose and wanted to be closer to home so that makes sense but listening to Asante Samuel in Philly talking about how important it is to play on a winner which is why he signed with Philly.  Would someone please tell Asante that the Patriots lost only one game last year.  Isn't that a winning franchise?

I bet every player the 49ers sigh, and the one's
the Raiders sign, will give the up and coming speech.
